Lot 2292
PISIDIA. Antiochia. Gordian III, 238-244. 'Sestertius' (Orichalcum, 33 mm, 24.08 g, 7 h). IMP CAES M ANT GORDIANVS AVG Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III to right, seen from behind. Rev. CAES ANTIOCH COL / S R Two Victories standing facing one another, placing shield inscribed S R upon palm tree; at base, bound captive seated left and right. Krzyźanowska dies VII/25. RPC VII.2 2738. Slightly rough, otherwise, very fine.

A noteworthy detail is the obverse legend: the VG of AVG is inserted in minute letters below the bust, implying that the engraver first cut the legend to end with A and only subsequently corrected the omission.
