KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 38 mm, 16.84 g, 12 h), Mesembria, circa 150-125. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. ΒAΣIΛEΩ - AΛEΞANΔ (sic!) Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; in inner left field, Corinthian helmet above ΔA; below throne, monogram. Karayotov 295 (O47/R134). Price 1047. Beautifully toned and struck on a particularly broad flan. Minor marks and with traces of overstriking, otherwise, good very fine.
