Extremely rare
Lot 1861
Divus Claudius II Gothicus, died 270. Half Follis (Bronze, 17 mm, 1.29 g, 6 h), Rome, 317-318. DIVO CLAVDIO OPTIMO IMP Laureate and veiled head of Divus Claudius II Gothicus to right. Rev. REQVIES OPTIMORVM MERITORVM / R Q Divus Claudius II Gothicus, veiled, seated left on curule chair, raising his right hand in salute and holding short scepter in his left. RIC -. Extremely rare. Slightly smoothed and with light deposits, otherwise, very fine.

From the Capitolina Collection.

An unusual feature is the extended reverse legend ending in MERITORVM, with the RVM forced into the exergue by the engraver and represented by six vertical strokes - presumably due to a miscalculation of the available space.
