Umayyad Caliphate. temp. 'Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, AH 65-86 / AD 685-705. Drachm (Silver, 31 mm, 4.00 g, 3 h), Arab-Sasanian type, Eastern Sistan Series. Class II, SK (Sijistan) mint. Draped Sasanian-style bust to right, wearing an elaborate mural crown; behind head, ‘GDE / ʾp̄zwt’ (‘[may his] glory increase’ in Pahlavi); before head, ‘hwslwb’ = ‘Husraw’ (‘Khosrau’ in Pahlavi); in the outer margin, ‘Allāh walī ʿawn – bism Allāh – rabbī’ (‘Allah is the Patron of Help. In the name of Allah, my Lord’ in Arabic). Rev. Fire altar with ribbons, flanked by two attendants; to left, blundered date in Pahlavi; to right, SK (abbreviation for the name of the mint in Pahlavi). Album 76.1. Rare. Some horn silver and a minor die fault on the obverse, otherwise, good extremely fine.
