PERSIA, Achaemenid Empire. Time of Artaxerxes III to Darios III, circa 350-333 BC. Drachm (?) (Silver, 15 mm, 3.62 g), Chian standard. Uncertain mint in western Asia Minor (Ionia or Sardes?). Persian king or hero in kneeling/running stance to right, holding spear in his right hand and bow in his left; in field to left, monogram (?). Rev. Incuse rectangle, containing distinct pattern perhaps depicting a relief map of the hinterland of Ephesos. Carradice -. Künker 288 (2012), 288 var. (no monogram). Cf. Mildenberg, Münzwesen, pl. XII, 110 (tetradrachm). Sunrise -. Extremely rare, a very unusual issue. Slightly porous and with minor traces of corrosion and tiny marks, otherwise, good fine.
