Lot 2145
Leo I, 457-474. Exagium Solidi (Bronze, 16x15 mm, 4.13 g, 12 h), Thessalonica (?). Crowned, diademed and draped facing bust of Leo I. Rev. Monogram of Leo I (LEONIS). Bendall 16 (same dies). CPAI -. MAH -. Pondera 11040. Very rare. The obverse a bit rough, otherwise, very fine.

Bendall observes that this form of Leo’s monogram, with the E to the left, occurs only on coins from Thessalonica, leading him to conclude that the exagia solidi originated there.
