Struck on an exceptionally broad and ragged flan
Lot 1986
Tetricus I, Romano-Gallic Emperor, 271-274. Antoninianus (Bronze, 24 mm, 3.76 g, 6 h), Treveri, late 273. IMP TETRICVS P F AVG Radiate and cuirassed bust of Tetricus I to right. Rev. HILARITAS AVGG Hilaritas standing front, head to left, holding palm frond in her right hand and cornucopiae in her left. AGK (corr.) 4c. Cunetio 2648. Elmer 789. RIC V.4 801. Struck on an exceptionally broad and ragged flan, otherwise, about extremely fine.

The ragged edge suggests that the flan was insufficiently heated before striking - an indication of the haste with which the coinage of Tetricus I was often produced.
