Lot 1983
Victorinus, Romano-Gallic Emperor, 269-271. Antoninianus (Bronze, 20 mm, 2.81 g, 12 h), a contemporary imitation, irregular mint, after 271. Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Victorinus to right; around, blundered legend. Rev. Radiate male figur (Sol) standing front, head to right, holding whip in his right hand and globe (?) in his left; in field to right, star; around, blundered legend. Struck on a pear-shaped flan and the reverse a bit weak, otherwise, good very fine.

This charming imitation is particularly delightful. The emperor’s depiction is especially amusing - his drapery almost looks like the tentacles of an octopus.
