A dramatic flip-over double strike
Lot 1964
Gallienus, 253-268. Antoninianus (Bronze, 20 mm, 2.06 g), Rome or Siscia, circa 264-268. [GALLIENVS AV]G Radiate head of Gallienus to right. Rev. G[ALLIENVS] A[VG] Radiate head of Gallienus to right. Flip-over double strike on a somewhat irregular flan, otherwise, about very fine.

This coin is a so-called flip-over double strike, meaning that the flan was not removed between two strikes but flipped over, which resulted in the head of Gallienus being partly visible on the reverse.
