PAX AVG AVG instead of PAX AVGG
Lot 1956
Trebonianus Gallus, 251-253. Antoninianus (Silver, 21 mm, 3.53 g, 12 h), Antiochia, 251-252. IMP C C VIB TREB GALLVS P F AVG Radiate and cuirassed bust of Trebonianus Gallus to right, seen from behind; below bust, •. Rev. PAX AVG AVG (sic!) Pax standing front, head to left, holding olive branch in her right hand and long scepter in her left; in exergue, •. Cohen -. Eauze -. Hauck & Aufhäuser 19 (2006), 352 (same reverse die). RIC 86 note. Very rare with this interesting reverse spelling error. Struck slightly off center and with minor traces of corrosion, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

This coin displays a particularly amusing blunder by the die engraver, who mistakenly expanded the abbreviated plural on the reverse - PAX AVGG - into PAX AVG AVG.
