Caracalla, 198-217. Denarius (Silver, 19 mm, 3.10 g, 12 h), Rome, 200. ANTONINVS AVGVSTVS Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Caracalla to right, seen from behind. Rev. PONTIF TR P III Caracalla, as Sol, standing front, head to left and nude but for cloak, holding globe in his right hand and inverted spear in his left. BMC 179. Cohen 413. RIC 30a. Nicely toned. Slightly rough and the reverse a bit weak and with a small die break, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From the collection of Kurt Zimmermann (* 1937) of Winterthur, long-serving numismatist at Schweizerische Kreditanstalt and Leu Numismatik, privately acquired from G. Brosi in July 1973.
