Lot 5898
ISLAMIC, 'Abbasid Caliphate. Uncertain period, circa AH 450-550 = circa AD 1050-1150. Bracteate (Billon, 23 mm, 0.72 g), a contemporary imitation of an Almovarid Dinar, struck in Western Europe, perhaps in England. Imitative Kufic legend in inner field and in the inner and outer margin. Rev. Incuse of obverse. Holed and repatinated, otherwise, very fine.

Similar bracteates copying Almovarid dinars are known from England. They were made in Norman times and testify to the lively trade with Al-Andalus.
