Michael VIII Palaeologus, 1261-1282. Hyperpyron (Gold, 25 mm, 4.01 g, 6 h), Constantinopolis. Bust of Virgin Mary, orans, within city walls furnished with six groups of towers and flanked by illegible letter and Δ; to lower left and right, pellets. Rev. Emperor kneeling slightly to right, being presented by Archangel Michael to Christ enthroned slightly to left and holding scroll in his left hand; to left and right, traces of legend. SB 2242. Slightly clipped and with some graffiti, otherwise, good very fine.
