Gordian III, 238-244. Aureus (Gold, 21 mm, 5.06 g, 7 h), Rome, 240. IMP CAES GORDIANVS PIVS AVG Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III to right, seen from behind. Rev. VIRTVS AVG Mars standing front, head to left, holding olive branch in his right hand and inverted spear in his left; behind, shield set on ground. Calicó 3240 corr. (Mars not Virtus). Cohen -. RIC 60 corr. (Mars not Virtus). Rare. A lovely example struck on a broad flan. Extremely fine.
