SELEUKID KINGS OF SYRIA. Demetrios I Soter, 162-150 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 33 mm, 16.62 g, 1 h), Antiochia on the Orontes, SE 158 = 155/4. Diademed head of Demetrios I to right within laurel wreath. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ - ΔHMHTPIOY / ΣΩTHPOΣ Tyche seated left on throne supported by tritoness right, holding scepter in her right hand and cornucopiae in her left; to outer left, monogram; in exergue, HNP. Franke-Hirmer pl. 206, 750 V (this coin). SC 1641.1. Beautifully toned and with a superb portrait. A few light marks and the reverse struck somewhat off center, otherwise, about extremely fine.


From the collection of Regierungsrat Dr. iur. Hans Krähenbühl, privately acquired from Bank Leu on 17 January 1975 (with a photocopy of the original invoice enclosed), and from the collections of R. Laughlin, Hess, 18 December 1933, 103 and C.S. Bement, Naville VII, 23-24 June 1924, 1685.
