PTOLEMAIC KINGS OF EGYPT. Ptolemy I Soter, As satrap, 323-305 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29 mm, 15.66 g, 12 h), reduced Ptolemaic standard, uncertain mint 1 (perhaps Pelousion). Struck in the name of Alexander III, circa 306-305. Diademed head of the deified Alexander III to right, wearing elephant skin headdress and aegis around his neck, and with horn of Ammon on his forehead. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Athena Alkidemos advancing right, hurling spear with her right hand and with shield over her extended left arm; to right, monogram above eagle, wing closed, standing to right on thunderbolt. Lorber 77. Svoronos 107. Beautifully toned. Traces of overstriking on the obverse and the reverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, good very fine.
