An extremely rare and interesting hexassarion of Gordian III from Saitta

LYDIA. Saitta. Gordian III, 238-244. Hexassarion (Bronze, 34 mm, 25.05 g, 6 h), Aur. Ail. Attalianos, first archon for the second time and son of an asiarch of equestrian rank. ΑΥΤ Κ Μ ΑΝΤ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III to right. Rev. ЄΠ ΑΥΡ ΑΙ ΑΤΤΑΛΙΑΝΟΥ ΥΟΥ ΙΠ ΑϹ // ϹΑΙΤΤΗΝΩΝ / ΑΡΧ•Α•Τ•Β Mên standing front, head to left, wearing Phrygian cap and with crescent on his shoulders, holding pine cone in his right hand and scepter in his left; to left and right, the river-gods Hermos and Hyllos reclining right and left, both holding reed and cornucopiae and reclining on urn from which water flows. RPC VII.1 219 (same dies). Extremely rare, apparently the fourth known example. A beautiful coin with a very interesting reverse. Very fine.
