Lot 719
JUDAEA. Gaba. Claudius, 41-54. Assarion (Bronze, 18 mm, 7.07 g, 12 h), CY 110 = 49/50 or 50/1. L IP Laureate head of Claudius to right. Rev. ΓABHNΩN ΦΙΛΙΠΠHNΩN Female figure standing facing, head to left, holding long cruciform scepter in her right hand and cornucopiae in her left. RPC I 4587 (2 specimens). Extremely rare. An exceptionally complete example with fully readable legends. Patina stripped, otherwise, good very fine.

RPC notes that the legends on the early coins of Gaba are not completely certain due to the poor condition of the few surviving examples. This piece, however, is a remarkable exception, as the reverse legend is clearly and fully readable
