PTOLEMAIC KINGS OF EGYPT. Arsinoe II, wife of Ptolemy II, died 270 BC. Octodrachm (Gold, 27x18 mm, 16.88 g, 12 h), struck under Ptolemy VI and Ptolemy VIII, circa 204-116, Alexandria. Veiled head of Arsinoe II to right, wearing stephane and ram's horn and with a lotus-tipped scepter over her left shoulder;; in field to left, [K]. Rev. [ΑΡΣ]ΙΝΟΗΣ ΦΙΛΑ[ΔΕΛΦΟΥ] Double cornucopiae bound with fillet and with two grape bunches hanging at sides. SNG Copenhagen 322. Svoronos 1498. Cut almost in half in antiquity, otherwise, good very fine.



This oktodrachm was almost split in half in antiquity. However, the larger fragment weighs 16.85 g, indicating that the intention was not to create two gold tetradrachms. This weight corresponds to roughly 60% of the full oktodrachm weight of 27.8 g.
