Rupee (Silver, 24 mm, 11.41 g, 6 h), East India Company issue in the name of Shah ʿAli Gauhar (i.e., Shah Alam II), AH 1172-1220 / AD 1759-1806, FE 1239 = AD 1829. Traces of ‘… julūs-i maymanat maʾnūs’ (‘… the prosperous reign’ in Persian); to left, ‘1239’ (in Devanāgarī); the so-called ‘serpent hood’ privy mark. Rev. Traces of ‘pādishāh-i Ghāzī Shāh ʿAlī Gauhar’ (‘The holy warrior king, Shah ʿAli Gauhar’ in Persian). KM 125 (as Maratha). Tiny marks and light doubling on the obverse, otherwise, about extremely fine.
