Rare with this mint error
Lot 3279
GERMANY. Kaiserreich. Wilhelm I, 1871-1888. 5 Pfennig 1875 C (Copper-Nickel, 18 mm, 2.42 g, 12 h), obverse indent mint error, Frankfurt am Main. Imperial eagle, C - [C] below. Rev. DEUTSCHES REICH 1875 / 5 / •PFENNIG•. Jaeger 3. Rare with this mint error. Good very fine.

From a German Collection of Patterns and Mint Errors.

An indent error occurs when two planchets partially overlap during striking. One is properly positioned between the dies, while the second covers part of it. The force of the strike presses the overlapping planchet into the other, leaving a smooth, recessed area. Since the die cannot reach the portion covered by the second planchet, that part of the coin remains unstruck.
