Iobane, vestes, 11th century. Seal (Lead, 20 mm, 5.59 g, 12 h). MP - Θ The Mother of God “Nikopoios”, nimbate, holding medallion of Christ with both hands. Rev. KЄ RΘ / IⲰRA/NЄ RЄ/CTH in four lines. Wassiliou-Seibt, Sammlung Boersema, 70 (this seal). Some surface cracks, otherwise, very fine.

From the collection of Gert Boersema, ex Leu Web Auction 8, 29-30 June 2019, 1756.
The name Iobane is a rendition of the Georgian name Iwane, which is cognate with Greek Ioannes. It is impossible to know if Iobane, who held the moderate dignity of vestes, pursued a military or a civil career, although the former seems to be more likely. Iobane was also the name of a son of the Georgian prince Liparit (see Leu Web Auction 32 (2024), 3106 and Web Auction 42 (2026), 3621)
