Dobromir (?), patrikios and protovestiarios of and servant of the Christ-loving emperor, middle 11th century. Seal (Lead, 24 mm, 10.40 g, 12 h). Nimbate bust of a bishop Saint, holding a long cross in his right hand and a book of Gospels in his left. Traces of a circular invocational legend. Rev. …POM/..PⲰ ΠATPI’ /…TORЄCTI’ / [ΦI]ΛⲰXPHCT’ / ΔЄCΠOTI’ in five lines. Wassiliou-Seibt, Sammlung Boersema, 51 (this seal). Struck on a small blank and some striking weakness, otherwise, very fine.

If the reading of the personal name is correct, the owner of our seal was of Slavic origin. He was the most influential eunuch on the imperial court after the parakoimomenos, and served as chief of the imperial vestiarion, an administrative office connected to the imperial wardrobe and treasury.
