Of the highest rarity, apparently the second known example
Lot 1761
Gordian III, 238-244. Antoninianus (Silver, 22 mm, 4.54 g, 11 h), Antiochia, 239-240. IMP CAES M ANT GORDIANVS AVG Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III to right, seen from behind. Rev. SALVS AVGVSTI Spes seated left on throne, holding patera in her right hand and resting her left at her side. Bland, Coinage, 84 (one example recorded). Cohen -. Michaux 567. RIC -. Of the highest rarity, apparently the second known example. Struck from a slightly worn obverse die and with two small flan faults on the reverse, otherwise, about extremely fine.
The unusual combination of Spes with the inscriptions SALVS AVGVSTI is attested in at least one more reverse type and is hence likely not an engraver's error, but an intended variety
