KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Drachm (Silver, 17 mm, 4.22 g, 12 h), uncertain mint in western Asia Minor, circa 323-280. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPO[Y] Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, monogram above ΠΑ. Price 2757 corr. (two monograms) = Kirazli 717-8 (same dies as 717). Very rare. Struck from worn dies and with light doubling on the obverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
Price describes type 2757 as having two monograms in the left field and refers to two specimens from the Kirazli hoard. The coins from the Kirazli hoard however clearly have a monogram above the letters ΠΑ.
