Judaica JUDAEA, Bar Kokhba War. 132-136 CE. Zuz = Denarius (Silver, 20 mm, 3.08 g, 12 h), regular coinage. Uncertain mint. Undated, but attributed to Year 3 = 134/5 CE. 𐤔𐤌𐤍𐤏𐤅 ('Šimna' (sic!) in Paleo-Hebrew) within a wreath composed of branches and eight almonds, tied with a medallion at the top and tendrils at the bottom. Rev. 𐤋𐤇𐤓𐤅𐤕 𐤉𐤓𐤅𐤔𐤋𐤌 ('For the Freedom of Jerusalem' in Paleo-Hebrew) Palm frond curving to right. Bromberg II 468 = Mildenberg 64.1 (this coin illustrated, O14/R36). Hendin 6447. Meshorer, AJC, 62c (same dies). Samel 2457-2459 (same obverse die). Shoshana I 20376 (same dies). Sofaer 130 (same dies). Lightly toned and very well preserved, and with an excellent pedigree. Struck from the usual somewhat worn obverse die and with minor traces of overstriking, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
