SICILY. Messana. 420-413 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 16.92 g, 6 h). [ΜΕΣΣ]ΑΝΑ The nymph Messana, wearing long chiton, holding kentron in her right hand and reins in both, driving biga of mules to right; in exergue, two dolphins facing each other. Rev. MEΣ-ΣA-NI-O-N Hare springing to right; below, dolphin swimming right. Caltabiano Series XIV, - (D207/R221, unlisted die combination). HGC 2, 792. Lightly toned. Minor deposits and with very light pitting on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.
