Perhaps unique as a brockage mint error
Lot 2271
SKYTHIA. Geto-Dacians. Koson, mid 1st century BC. Stater (Gold, 18 mm, 8.55 g, 12 h), brockage mint error. Olbia. KOΣΩN Roman consul accompanied by two lictors advancing left. Rev. Incuse of obverse. Iliescu 2. RPC I 1701B. Of the highest rarity as a brockage, perhaps unique. Nearly extremely fine.

Koson coins are frequently struck from worn dies, and off-center strikes are not uncommon. By contrast, brockage errors such as the present piece are of the greatest rarity; we know of no other examples in either gold or silver other than the two pieces offered here (see lot 2272 below). A brockage results when a coin adheres to one die - typically the reverse, rarely the obverse - and impresses an incuse mirror image onto the next flan.
