Of great numismatic interest: a provincial silver coin bearing the denomination mark 12 Asses
Lot 1452
CAPPADOCIA. Caesaraea-Eusebia. Nero, with Agrippina Junior, 54-68. 12 Asses (Silver, 17 mm, 2.65 g, 1 h), circa 58-59. NERO CLAVD DIVI CLAVD F CAESAR AVG GERMANI• Laureate head of Nero to right. Rev. Draped bust of Agrippina Junior to right; in field to left, AC•/IT•; in field to right, IB (mark of value); all within wreath of laurel and grain ears. Ganschow 56. RIC 612. RPC I 3643. Sydenham, Caesarea, 79. Extremely rare and of great numismatic interest. Somewhat rough and with light scratches and minor traces of corrosion, otherwise, good very fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.
This type is of particular interest not only for its beautifully executed reverse, which shows the bust of Agrippina enclosed within a twisted wreath of laurel and grain ears, but also for its reverse legend: AC / IT – IB. This inscription indicates a denomination - specifically, 12 Italian asses. The coin thus represents a value of 12 asses, which aligns well with its weight, being lighter than a Roman denarius, valued at 16 asses.
