KINGS OF MACEDON. Philip II, 359-336 BC. Stater (Gold, 18 mm, 8.61 g, 10 h), Amphipolis, struck under Philip II or Alexander III, circa 340/36-328 BC. Laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. ΦΙΛΙΠΠOY Charioteer driving biga to right, holding reins in his left hand and goad in his right; below horses, astragalos. Le Rider 28 (D12/R22). A rare variety. Well struck and lustrous. Light die rust and tiny marks, otherwise, extremely fine.

From the collection of Walter Uhrmeister, ex Leu Web Auction 2, 3 December 2017, 100 and previously from a Viennese collection, formed in the 1990s.
