Lot 2186
SWITZERLAND. Graubünden. Gotteshausbund. 2 Kreuzer 1568 (Silver, 19 mm, 1.00 g, 12 h). MONO•DOMVS•DEI•CV 15-68 Capricorn rampant left. Rev. From the old stock of a late Swiss coin dealer.

Between 1540 and 1570, the Gotteshausbund (Lia da la Chadé in Romansh = 'League of God's House') held the right of coinage, which was granted by the bishops of Chur, although it is uncertain how long the League actually minted coins. The engraver of our type was probably the famous gold smith from Zurich, Hans Jakob Stampfer.
