A very rare 1/24 stater from the Boii in exceptional condition
Lot 37
CELTIC, Central Europe. Boii. 2nd century BC. 1/24 Stater (Gold, 7 mm, 0.35 g, 12 h), early Athena-Alkis-series. Laureate male head to right. Rev. Athena Alkis standing left, brandishing spear with her right hand and holding shield with her left; to left, six dots in two groups of three; to lower right, X. Dembski -. Flesche -, cf. 434 (later style). LT -. Paulsen 141. SLM 1139. Very rare and in exceptional condition for the issue. Perfectly centered, well struck and free of the usual heavy die wear. Extremely fine.

From an important collection of Central European Celtic coins.

The fact that this coin was struck from dies that show virtually no wear make it stand out from the otherwise mostly mediocrely produced Athena-Alkis-series. It is a remarkable exception to the rule and undoubtedly among the finest known examples.
