Byzantine Weights. Weight of 2 Unciae or 12 Solidi (Orichalcum, 28x28 mm, 53.00 g), a uniface square 'imperial' coin weight with slightly curved edges, late 5th to 6th century. Two emperors, nimbate, standing facing in military attire, each holding spear and shield; between them, a cross; to lower left and right, Γ - B; all designs engraved; the cross, heads, hands, belts, legs and letters inlaid with silver; the arms, chests and boots with copper. Rev. Blank. Cf. Bendall 61 (3 Unciae, value mark not inlaid with silver). Extremely rare. A very interesting and impressive 'imperial' coin weight in excellent condition and with its inlays nearly fully intact. Nearly extremely fine.
