Antoninus Pius, 138-161. Medallion (Orichalcum, 31 mm, 24.56 g, 1 h), Rome, 138. IMP T AEL CAES HADR ANTONINVS AVG PIVS Laureate and draped bust of Antoninus Pius to right. Rev. Salus standing right, leaning with her left hand on a garlanded altar inscribed SALVS and feeding with her right a serpent coiled around a tree. Banti -. Cohen 1169 var. (differing bust type). This is one of Pius earliest medallions: it was struck shortly after his accession to power and proclaims the wellbeing of the res publica under the new emperor
