CRETE. Polyrhenion. Circa 350-270 BC. Stater (Silver, 22 mm, 11.21 g, 9 h), Charistenes, magistrate. Laureate head of Zeus to right. Rev. ΠΟΛ-ΥΡΗΝ-ΙΟΝ / ΧΑΡΙΣΘ-ΕΝΗΣ Head of a sacrificial bull facing, with fillets hanging from horns; below, spearhead to right. Le Rider, Crétoises, p. 38, 305 and pl. X, 11 (same dies). Svoronos, Crete, 6 and pl. XXV, 29 (same dies). Lightly toned and of powerful style. Minor areas of weakness, otherwise, very fine.
