A very rare and lustrous stater from Cilicia

KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Stater (Gold, 16 mm, 8.60 g, 1 h), uncertain mint in Cilicia ("Side"), struck under Philoxenos, circa 320-318/7. Head of Athena to right, wearing Corinthian helmet decorated with a coiled serpent. Rev. AΛEΞANΔΡOΥ - BAΣIΛΕΩΣ Nike standing front, head to left, with her wings spread, holding laurel wreath in her right hand and stylis in her left; in inner left field, ΦI above Λ. Price 2963. Very rare. A lustrous, bright and very attractive coin of fine style. Very minor die rust on the obverse and a few very light marks, otherwise, virtually as struck.
