THRACE. Philippopolis. Elagabalus, 218-222. Medallion (Bronze, 42 mm, 34.14 g, 12 h). AΥT K M AΥΡHΛIOC ANTΩNEINOC CEB Laureate, draped and cuirassed half-length bust of Elagabalus to left. Rev. ΜΗΤΡΟΠΟΛΕΩC ΦIΛIΠΠOΠOΛEΩC / NEΩKOΡOΥ Apollo standing facing, holding bunch of grapes in his right hand and bow in his left, within octastyle temple; in pediment, shield and spear. RPC VI online 491. Varbanov, Philippopolis, XVII.11.1.1 corr. (reverse type). Very rare. A most impressive medallion with a very interesting reverse. Somewhat rough and with a thin flan crack, otherwise, good very fine.
