Lot 2947
Constantine I, 307/310-337. Follis (Bronze, 18 mm, 2.66 g, 6 h), Rome, circa 320. CONSTA-NTINVS AVG Helmeted and cuirassed bust of Constantine I to right. Rev. FORTVNA RE-DVX AVG N / P - R / R T Fortuna seated left, holding rudder with her right hand and cornucopiae in her left; below seat, wheel. RIC -. Unpublished and unique, a highly interesting issue. Somewhat rough, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

This is one of the greatest rarities in the Ramskold collection. When it was acquired in 2005, it meant the discovery of a completely unrecorded reverse for the coinage of Constantine I. In 2016, a second coin with this reverse was described, a Constantine Caesar from officina S, found in the Misurata hoard in Libya (see Garaffo, Il Tesoro monetale di Suq el Kedim (Misurata, Libia) 2016, p. 59). No other examples are known, and thus this remains one of the rarest of all Constantinian bronze coins.
