Constantine I wearing a triple wreath
Lot 2902
Constantine I, 307/310-337. Follis (Bronze, 17 mm, 1.91 g, 11 h), Antiochia, July 325. Laureate head of Constantine I to right. Rev. CONSTAN/TINVS / AVG / SMANTB in four lines; above, laurel wreath. RIC 52. Extremely rare. Somewhat rough, otherwise, very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

This extremely rare piece shows Constantine I with a triple wreath, and is one of only three known triple wreath examples out of seven coins known from officina B, versus 44 known from officina Є. No other officinae struck for Constantine I in the first anepigraphic Antioch emission; other entries in RIC VII are examples misread by Bruun.
