INDIA, Gupta Empire. First Dynasty. Chandragupta II Vikramaditya, circa 380-413. Dinar (Gold, 19 mm, 7.92 g, 12 h). PARAMABHAGAVATO MAHARAJADHIRAJA SRI CHANDRAGUPTAH ('The highest stage Devotee of Vishnu, the King of Kings, Lord Chandragupta' in Brahmi) Chandragupta II seated on horse prancing right. The emperor is shown as a young man, bear-chested and wearing a dhoti. Rev. AJITAVIKRAMAH ('One who is unconquered and valorous' in Brahmi) Lakshmi is seated to left on a wicker stool, with a halo around her head, holding diadem in her right hand and flower in her left; to upper left, tamgha. Kumar, Class II, A.2. A very interesting type struck in high relief and with a majestic obverse. Good very fine.
