KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Stater (Gold, 19 mm, 8.59 g, 12 h), Sardes, struck under Lysimachos, circa 301/0-300/299. Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Corinthian helmet decorated with a coiled serpent. Rev. AΛEΞANΔΡOΥ Nike standing front, head to left, with her wings spread, holding laurel wreath in her right hand and stylis in her left; in field to left, monogram of KY within circle; below left wing, monogram of AYT. ADM I, Series XXI, -. Hersh, Additions, -. Price -, cf. 2689 (for tetradrachm with same monograms). Apparently unpublished. A wonderful coin, boldly struck and fully lustrous, and of beautiful style. Virtually as struck.
