KINGS OF MACEDON. Philip II, 359-336 BC. Stater (Gold, 18 mm, 8.62 g, 9 h), Pella, struck under Philip II or Alexander III, 340/36-328. Laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. ΦΙΛΙΠΠOY Charioteer driving biga to right, holding goad in his right hand and reins in his left; below the horses, thunderbolt. Le Rider pl. 55, 70 (D32/R57). An exceptionally fresh and lustrous piece, very sharply struck and of magnificent style. Very light marks on the obverse, otherwise, virtually as struck.
