Gordian I, 238. Sestertius (Orichalcum, 30 mm, 18.32 g, 11 h), Rome, March-April 238. IMP CAES M ANT GORDIANVS AFR AVG Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian I to right, seen from behind. Rev. PROVIDENTIA AVGG / S - C Providentia standing front with legs crossed, head to left, leaning left elbow on column, holding wand over globe in her right hand and cornucopiae in her left. BMC 5. Cohen 6. RIC 9. Rare. A beautiful piece, well preserved and with a wonderful brown patina. Thin flan crack and with light doubling, otherwise, good very fine.
