Anonymous, circa 225-214 BC. Quadrigatus - Didrachm (Silver, 23 mm, 6.64 g, 6 h), uncertain mint. Laureate head of Janus. Rev. ROMA (incuse on raised tablet) Jupiter, hurling thunderbolt with his right hand and holding scepter in his left, in quadriga right driven by Victory. Crawford 29/3. RBW 63. Sydenham 64. A beautiful piece, struck on a very broad flan and with wonderful dark collection toning. Nearly extremely fine.


From the collection of Yves Gunzenreiner and from a Swiss private collection kept in a bank safe in Lugano since the early 1980s.
