ISLAMIC, 'Abbasid Caliphate. Al-Mu'tazz, AH 251-255 / AD 866-869. Dirham (Silver, 22 mm, 3.00 g, 9 h), citing the caliph al-Mu'tazz billah, Makka (Mekka), AH 252 = AD 866/7. Baldwin's Islamic Coin Auction 22 (2012), 3159. SICA IV, -. Of the highest rarity, the second and finest known example. Minor deposits and with light marks, otherwise, nearly very fine.
All coinage from Makka is very rare, in particular many of the dirhams. The present example is apparently only the second known example dated to AH 252 = 866/7; it is also the finest, with a clearly readable date and mint name.
