MYSIA. Cyzicus. Gordian III, 238-244. Tetrassarion (Bronze, 28 mm, 9.79 g, 7 h). ΑΥΤ Κ Μ ΑΝΤ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III to right, seen from behind. Rev. ΚΥΖΙΚΗΝΩΝ ΝЄΩΚΟΡ/ΩΝ Hephaistos seated right in front of anvil, brandishing hammer and forging thunderbolt or metal bar. RPC VII.1 18.1 = SNG Paris 843 (same dies). Extremely rare, apparently the third and finest known example. Slightly rough and the obverse struck somewhat off center, otherwise, about extremely fine.
