Lot 2083
SERBIA. Jakov, circa 1371-1400. Half Gros (Silver, 12 mm, 0.65 g, 6 h), an issue struck by the feudal lord Jakov. III / IAK/OB in three lines. Rev. Nimbate figure of Christ facing, holding book of Gospels in his left hand and raising his right in benediction; around, traces of legend. Jovanovic, SMC, p. 112, 3. Rare and nicely toned. Very fine.

The coins struck by feudal lords during the dissolvement of the Serbian Kingdom under the unfortunate reign of Tsar Uroš V, known as Uroš the Weak, perhaps served as local emergency issues.
