KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 33 mm, 15.95 g, 1 h), Smyrna, circa 220-200. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress; on cheek, countermark: head of Zeus Ammon to right within rectangular incuse. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, head of Tyche to left above monogram. Price 2253 (?). Very rare and with an unusual countermark. Very fine.
