Reattributed to Mopsouestia-Mopsos
Lot 1368
CILICIA. Mopsouestia-Mopsos (?). Claudius, 41-54. Hemiassarion (Bronze, 19 mm, 4.27 g, 1 h), CY 3 = 47/8 (?). [ΚΛΑΥΔΙΟϹ] ΚΑΙϹΑΡ Laureate head of Claudius to right. Rev. ЄΤΟΥϹ ΚΑΙϹΑΡ[Є]ΩΝ / Γ Turreted, veiled, and draped bust of Tyche to right. RPC I 4084. SNG Copenhagen 177 corr. (Caesarea in Cappadocia). SNG von Aulock 6348 corr. (Caesarea in Cappadocia). The obverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, very fine.

This issue has variously been attributed to a Caesarea in Cappadocia, Cilicia and Syria. Recently, Tahberer (in NC 175 (2015), pp. 47-55) has argued that these coins should be attributed to Mopsus instead, which, for unknown reasons, renamed itself to Caesarea between 45/6 and 50/1.
