Sextus Pompey, † 35 BC. Denarius (Silver, 20 mm, 3.64 g, 11 h), military mint in Sicily, 37-36. MAG PIVS• IMP•ITER Head of Neptune to right, his hair tied with band and with trident over shoulder. Rev. [PRAEF] CLAS•ET ORAEMAR IT EX S•C Trophy with trident above and anchor below; stem of prow on left and aplustre on right, two heads of Scylla at base. Babelon (Pompeia) 21. Crawford 511/2b. RBW 1784. Sydenham 1347. A wonderful example, sharply struck on a broad flan and with magnificent old collection toning. Tiny flan flaw on the reverse and with a very small flan crack, otherwise, virtually as struck.
